REALTOR® Resolutions

By Michelle McCann
COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

Believe it or not, 2017 is long gone, 2018 is here, and now is the time to look forward to a better, more prosperous New Year. Reach your full potential this year in your personal and professional life by making—and keeping—some New Year’s resolutions. Below are eight you might consider.

  1. Be Personable
Small acts of kindness go a long way! Stand apart from the competition by creating unique, personal experiences for your clients. Learn about your client’s interests, their community, their children, and their pets. Details like pointing out where the nearest soccer fields or tennis courts are if their children play, offering bottled water or yummy snacks during showings, and choosing unique, personalized closing gifts can make all the difference in a client’s remembering you for next time.

  2. Be Present—Online
What is one thing you wish for in the New Year? Probably more business! Well, if that is true, then you need to make sure that you can be found—online. But because you have no way of knowing where a prospective client might come from, it is best to cover as many bases as possible. With that said, we suggest starting with realtor.com, Trulia.com, and, of course, ocar.org to ensure that you at least have a current photo uploaded. Profiles without a photo are often viewed as inactive or even deceased so make sure your online presence is alive and well!

  3. Maintain Your Relevance
Develop new skills and utilize modern technology to ensure that you stay up to speed with the latest developments and innovations in real estate. Consistently modifying your strategies and evolving with trends will give you a competitive edge and help you stay relevant in today’s and tomorrow’s market. Throughout the year, OC REALTORS® offers classes and events, such as Nerd Fest and our two-day TechXpert Training, to keep you in the forefront of technology as it relates to home buying and selling. View upcoming classes and events at www.ocar.org/calendar.

  4. Take a Stand
In these tumultuous times, it is important to stand up for what you believe in, especially the dream of homeownership. To make a real difference, you need to educate yourself regarding the issues, which is the reason we created www.realdealoc.com. Real Deal OC is a website dedicated to educating the real estate industry, as well as consumers, about public policy. In addition, as an industry, we often call on our members to help us take a collective stand to protect homeownership and real property rights. 5. Become a Resource
Distinguish yourself in the industry and demonstrate to your clients that you have both relevant experience and specialized knowledge by earning a designation. Designations and certifications help the most committed and enthusiastic REALTORS®differentiate themselves in niche areas of real estate. Designations are awarded to REALTORS®by the National Association of REALTORS®and are offered online through REALTOR®University. OC REALTORS® offers live courses for a select number of these sought-after specialties. To read descriptions and register, visit www.ocar.org/designations.

  6. Expand Your Circle
At Orange County REALTORS®, we are grateful to have Affiliate members who represent a broad spectrum of businesses, from Title, Escrow, and Pest Control to Home Remodeling, Locksmiths, and Inspections! We encourage you to make connections with professionals in all these categories because you never know when you might need one to help keep a sale together. Also, make sure you have several contacts so that, if one should be unavailable, you have other options! Our weekly Marketing Meetings and Previews provide an opportunity to meet people and expand your professional circle.

  7. Stay Connected
Clients are your most important asset. Staying connected to former clients leads to referrals and keeps the door open for future business. Create goals for staying in touch with past clients, such as delivering gifts, emailing useful market news, sending holiday and birthday cards, and adding them on social media. Nurturing relationships with former clients by committing to consistent, authentic contact helps to ensure that you will be rewarded with repeat business.

  8. Treat Yourself
In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, you can easily forget to take time for yourself. But you are important too! No matter how busy you are, make it a point to have some fun. Whether you cruise to a distant and exotic location or simply sneak away for a few hours to watch a good movie, you need to treat yourself! Peruse our benefits online at www.ocar.org/benefits to discover discounts on entertainment and travel.
